Favorite Subjects

We’ve long wanted to add one-click access to favorite subjects, and so the other day we rolled out the first pass at this.

Here’s how it works: when you see a jot in a subject you want to track, click the orange “more options” icon and then select “Add subject to favorites”. (Note: this is also how you remove a subject from your favorites list)

You will then see a button appear in your sidebar:

By the way, if you click on the word “Favorites” itself, that will take you to “all favorites”

Right now, clicking Favorites sends you to the Explore page, but we are planning to move this to your Home page so you can navigate within your feed.

What is Subjot?

About Subjot

Subjot combines your social graph with your interest graph. We sometimes refer to it as a microforum: part microblog and part forum. You assign a subject to every post. You can find posts by subject and create a feed of only the subjects and people you care about. The emphasis on subjects helps you find friends, new and old, who share your interests, enabling you to have more meaningful conversations with them.

The Exponential Rate Of Sharing

Mark Zuckerberg asserted that on average, the typical Facebook user today shares twice the amount of content they shared a year ago — and in one year they’ll probably be sharing twice as much as they are today. [1]

We need new tools that help us manage the increasing volume of social content. Subjot allows you to share more liberally without worrying about spamming your friends with things they are not interested in. It also helps you to focus on the interests you share with your friends.

Subjot is in Beta

Subjot is in beta and we are improving it daily. Some of the features we have in development include the Subjot API, reposting jots, assigning multiple subjects per jot and private (invite-only) subjects.

We love feedback and the best way to give us feedback is to post to a “feedback” subject on Subjot.

You can now invite all of your followers

We have updated the invite system to make it easier for you to post one invite URL to many people. This is helpful for posting a URL to Twitter where you can invite all of your followers to Subjot. You can also get your invite URL without posting to Twitter, so that you can invite friends via email, IM and other networks. (Note: for now, people still need a Twitter account to register).

Here’s how it works!

1) Look for the Invite friends to Subjot link on your sidebar.

2) Personalize your message if desired and Tweet the invite to all of your followers.

- OR - instead of Tweeting, click “Skip the tweet, just give me the url to share”

How to invite your friends to Subjot.

Subjot is more fun with friends! This is how you invite your Twitter friends to Subjot.

1) Look for the “Invite Friends to Subjot” link on your sidebar.

2) Enter the twitter user you wish to invite in Step 1.

3) Click “Tweet this invite!” to send the invite over twitter. The tweet goes out as an @mention, so only users following both you and the person you are inviting will see it. 

You have been invited to Subjot!

You can now invite your twitter friends to Subjot. The sign up experience has changed recently and we wanted to give you a walk-through so that you can see how your friends will experience Subjot.

1) Your friend will receive an @reply from you via Twitter with a link to sign up for Subjot. This link will only work for the friend who was invited.

2) That link will take them to the Subjot landing page, where your friend will see a personal welcome message from you!

3) When clicking “Connect with Twitter” they will be asked to authorize Subjot to use their Twitter account. Note: Subjot will never post a tweet without the user’s approval.

4) After authorizing the app, they will see Step 1 of 3: Account Set Up. Check out the new profile picture selector. Bonus: existing users can now choose their twitter pic now too on the settings page.

5) Step 2 of 3: Your friend sees recent jots by you in up to 6 subjects. We want to quickly show new users relevant content.

6) Step 3: Find more friends and subjects to follow. To get a busy feed set up fast, users can follow a group of Twitter friends in a variety of subjects. 

7) The user has completed the first user experience and is presented with their Subjot feed. The are ready to start posting, commenting and exploring new people and subjects!
